Scott Hassler Appointed as National Young Horse Dressage Coach

The USEF is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Hassler as the National Young Horse Dressage Coach, as part of the highly successful Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Program. The establishment of this coaching position is an illustration of the Federation’s continuing initiatives to support and emphasize structured development of future FEI-level dressage horses and riders.

Hassler is the Training Director at the internationally renowned sport horse breeding and training center, Hilltop Farm, in Colora, MD, and has been a champion of young dressage horses in the United States, experiencing success both in and out of the competition ring.

USEF Announces Launch of Inaugural Dressage Program for 2006: “Passage Cup” Championship

The USEF Dressage Committee is pleased to announce the launch of a new dressage championship program in 2006, the “Passage Cup.” Designed to assist and encourage today’s Young Riders as they transition to the Senior Grand Prix, the Passage Cup will shed much-needed light on tomorrow’s stars—today.

Horse Emergency Rescue Information Needed

Dr. Rebecca Gimenez and Dr. Tomas Gimenez are preparing a book on technical large animal ermergency rescue for Blackwell Publishing in Oxford that is scheduled for publication in 2007. This book will reflect the increasing demand for proper techniques and standardized procedures for use by veterinarians, horse owners and professional emergency responders on equine incident scenes, both in emergencies and disasters. Throughout the book, emphasis will be on understanding prey animal behavior and safety when handling large animals, pointing out practical advice for maintaining responder safety and preventing iatrogenic injury to the victim.

The best way to learn is by learning from the practical experience of others, and the Gimenez’s want your stories about wrecks, trapped animals, accidents, and moreover, how you freed the trapped animals.

USET Foundation Awards $1.9 Million for High-Performance Programs in 2005

The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation announced that in 2005 it awarded $1.9 million to the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) in support of its high-performance programs: dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping and vaulting. The grant was made possible by the generous donations of contributors in response to the USET Foundation’s successful fundraising efforts.

United States Equestrian Team Foundation Announces Six New Trustees Named to the Board of Trustees

The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation has announced that six new trustees have been named to the organization’s Board of Trustees. The new trustees are: Janice Aron, E. Hunter Harrison, Sheila C. Johnson, Anne Kursinski, Jan Neuharth and Anthony V. Weight.

Joie Gatlin and John Pearce Earn Grand Prix Wins at the Indio Desert Circuit

Jeff Campf had a very good reason to be afraid of Joie Gatlin as she beat out a field of eight men in Sunday's jump-off in the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix at the HITS Indio Desert Circuit. "One women scares me way more than any guy ever would," said Campf at the in-gate before the jump-off.

Gatlin and 15-year-old Suncal's King bested a field of 29 riders to secure the winning purse of $15,000.

Aaron Vale Plays It Just Right to Win $25,000 HITS Ocala Grand Prix with Serval

Aaron Vale and Serval, owned by The Serval Group, led the victory gallop in the $25,000 HITS Ocala Grand Prix on Sunday, January 29, posting the only double-clear round out of a class of 22 horse-and-rider combinations. Course Designer Jerry Dougherty set a first-round course that saw only four riders advance to the jump-off.

Paso Fino Judges and Stewards Clinic This Weekend

A Judges and Stewards Clinic will be held on February 4-5, 2006, in Tampa, FL. The clinic is open to anyone who wants to attend, not just judges and stewards. The fee for auditors is $25, for Renewal Judges/Stewards that pre-entered by January 23, 2006, the fee was $100. For Renewal Judges/Stewards that enter after January 23, 2006, the fee is $125.

Winter Equestrian Festival Week One Wrap-Up

The largest opening Sunday crowd in the 34-year history of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) brought Week One, the Nutrena/Western Hay Classic, to a close and watched Leslie Howard of Westport, CT, post her second major win in four days as she galloped to victory in the $50,000 Farr XTN Grand Prix of Palm Beach.

2006 Sunshine Circuit Week Four Update

Sixteen-year-old Henry Pfeiffer of Temperance, MI, riding Elton, a 9-year-old Warmblood gelding owned by Fox Meadow Farm, won the Jacksonville Winter A–Z $15,000 Open Welcome presented by the Outback Steakhouse. The starting field of 29 competitors were blessed with perfect weather and a unique challenge from course designer Allen Rheinheimer for the opening event of Week Four of the Jacksonville Winter Series.
