USEF Announces the Five Farnam/Platform USEF Horse of the Year Candidates; Voting Now Open
Excellence in equestrian sport does not come easy. It takes an amazing sense of dedication, incredible skill and a courageous heart. And in 2009, five horses (and their riders, drivers and handlers) have shown the world exactly those qualities. For each of them, their hard work and brilliant talent has garnered them a nomination for the United States Equestrian Federation's highest honor bestowed upon a horse—the Farnam/Platform USEF Horse of the Year Award.
The five nominees represent the breadth of the Federation's breeds and disciplines well. They will join the pantheon of past winners of this prestigious award: driving horse Jamaica (2008); event pony Teddy O'Connor (2007); jumping horse Authentic (2006); and dressage horse Brentina (2005).

Kelley Farmer and Habana Repeat Victory In Draper Equine Therapy Baby Green Hunter Championship at New Year’s Show
Kelley Farmer and Habana repeated their victory in the Baby Green Hunter division, sponsored by Draper Equine Therapy, at the Equestrian Sport Productions New Year’s Show. It was the second victory in the Baby Green Hunter Championship during the winter show circuit for Farmer and the four-year-old gelding Habana, who is owned by the Spencer Ranch, home of Popeye K, the 2008 and 2009 USEF Hunter Breeding Sire of the Year.
“It is very exciting to see Habana being so consistent at such a young age,” said Kat Wojtylak, Product Manager of Draper Equine Therapy. “I am sure we will be seeing a lot of him in the future, and what a great way to start the New Year for the pair. It is also a huge tribute to Popeye K and the lines that are being passed down to his offspring.”
Rachel Spencer, owner of Habana and Spencer Ranch, said she purchased the hunter as a three-year-old in Europe. Her plans are for the gelding to show in the Pre-Green Division during the circuit with Farmer on board.
