$283,000 Distributed to Gulf Area Organizations from USEF Hurricane Equine Relief Fund
When the clouds cleared on August 30, the full aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was shockingly revealed, and before the Gulf area could even assess all the damage, another cruel blow was struck by Hurricane Rita. Almost immediately after Katrina, an unprecedented outpouring of assistance from the equestrian community across the United States and Canada resulted in thousands of e-mails to the USEF with offers of shelter for horses and inquiries about sending much needed supplies. This generosity also included donations to the USEF Hurricane Equine Relief Fund which received a total of just over $283,000, all of which has been sent to relief organizations.

One of America’s Most Popular Breeds, Appaloosas, Join USEF as 2006 Affiliated Association
With varied coats of bold spotted patterns, the Appaloosa continues to chart a solid course as one of America’s favorite companion and competitive horses today, just as it did more than a hundred years ago. Thousands of these horses can be found in the United States and across the world, demonstrating their versatility as they compete in multiple disciplines and show classes.
As this breed continues to demonstrate notable growth in membership and horse recordings, the Appaloosa Horse Club has joined the National Federation’s equestrian family, as a 2006 United States Equestrian Federation Affiliated Association. With more than 28,000 members and thousands of horses registered through the Appaloosa Horse Club’s International Breed Registry, it’s clear this breed will continue to command attention in the 21st century.

Dressage Test Information for 2006
FEI Test Score Sheets: The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has made all FEI tests available for download on their website at www.horsesport.org. These score sheets are formatted in a multi-page, letter-size paper layout. Therefore, USEF will no longer mass-produce and stock inventory of FEI test score sheets. However, USEF will continue to make the traditional legal-size colored sheets available for purchase on an “on-demand” basis for a reduced cost of $0.25 per test. USEF will be unable to accept trade-ins or offer refunds for score sheets previously purchased.
For direct links, please visit the USEF Dressage webpage at www.usef.org/content/equestrianSports/disciplines/international/dressage.php.
FEI Junior Tests: Please note the FEI has issued new Junior Tests (Preliminary, Team and Individual) which must be used as of January 1, 2006. Please discard any previous test editions.
USEF Four-Year-Old Test: The FEI has also established a Four-Year-Old Test for 2006. However, it has been decided that this test will NOT be used for the USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage Program. Instead, the USEF has issued its own national test for Four-Year-Old horses. This USEF test must be used for any qualifying scores for the USEF/Markel National Young Horse Dressage Championships (four-year-old division). The USEF Four-Year-Old Test is available for free download from the USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage page of the USEF website at www.usef.org/content/equestrianSports/disciplines/international/2004-YH-Program.php.
