2009 Reining by the Bay Gears Up Out West

The ever popular Reining By The Bay celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year. In line with the celebration, show producers RBB, Inc., have announced that the Peninsula Humane Society has been deemed the official charity of the organization. The news is just in time for the 2009 Reining By The Bay event, which takes place July 21-26 at The Horse Park in Woodside, CA.
"We are very excited to be working with the Peninsula Humane Society at the Reining By The Bay,” said Mandi Brumley of RBB, Inc. “We are looking forward to developing a lasting relationship working together for such a valuable cause. As horse owners and animal lovers, our pets are members of our families, so pet adoptions to loving homes mean a great deal to all of us. It is our hope that our reining event will benefit the PHS and send some pets home with new families!"
RBB will promote these efforts during the grand finale competition at the Reining By The Bay on Saturday July 26, a day when the PHS will make pets available for adoption at the event.
PHS President Ken White expressed his excitement at the partnership with RBB, Inc. “We’re always looking for new ways to reach potential adopters and others supportive of our work and mission,” said White. “We are very excited to be part of this year’s Reining By The Bay event.”
A favorite event of reiners out west, the show will draw exhibitors from multiple states who will compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. The NRHA “A” rated show once again boasts its $70,000 added one-run Derby, a $10,000 added futurity, a full slate of ancillary classes and Rookie Day, which will precede the show on July 19. At Reining By The Bay, big prize money payouts and prizes including trophy saddles and buckles are presented to a wide range of category champions and reserve champions. As always, the show offers prizes through sixth place in all aged event divisions.
“We’re
thrilled to be celebrating 10 years since the first Reining By The Bay,” added Brumley. “We have worked very hard over the years to turn out a really fun show that is efficiently managed.” Brumley, who is a non-pro competitor herself and wife of reining horse trainer Tracy Brumley, said creating the ultimate event is a top priority. “We have a very full roster of classes that include every division from the Green As Grass to top-notch aged event competition,” she explained. “We give exhibitors plenty of warm-up time in the arena and insure a great schedule that finishes by 6 p.m. most days, so we don’t run the horses and riders into the ground. We host several parties, too, that are a lot of fun. The way we structure our entire event allows for exhibitors to really enjoy themselves.”
Last year’s Open Derby and Open Futurity Champion, Andrea Fappani of San Marcos, CA, couldn’t agree more. “This is really a great show. I make a point of coming to it every single year,” said Fappani, who is one of the elite NRHA Million Dollar Riders. “It is run very well, and I really like the one-run Derby and Futurity events, because they don’t take too much out of my horses and we can still earn good prize money.”
