Those attending the 2009 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows will be treated to top-notch hunter/jumper competition at one of the nation’s most pristine and picturesque equestrian training centers. Old Salem Farm will host its annual Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows at its newly renovated facility in the charming town of North Salem, NY, May 5-10 and May 12-17.
The farm has a cherished history of hosting elite horse shows for the nation’s premiere horses and riders. Over the years, it has played host to Selection Trials for U.S. Teams for World Championships and Olympic Games. Though the history of Old Salem Farm has not been lost to its renovations, the farm’s president, Scott Hakim, sees the newly renovated facility adding a new dimension to the horse shows and events it will host in the future, securing for the farm a future as bright as its illustrious past.
“While the renovations were time consuming and arduous, the results were well worth the wait,” said Hakim. “We covered every detail of horse show life, analyzed every aspect of our boarders’ needs and wants, and kept foremost in our minds the safety and well-being of our horses. The result is a new farm that maintains our traditional look and feel and is even more magnificent than any of us could have imagined.”
The renovations at Old Salem Farm cover every inch of the 125-acre property from the entranceway lined with newly added landscaping, to the boxwood hedge framed hunter ring. The farm boasts a newly renovated barn with mahogany wood imported from Europe and padded stalls to accommodate 68 horses. The barn also features limestone wash stalls, which offer both hot and cold water.
The renovated barn also features a fresh reception area and a fully furnished Boarders Lounge for those who keep their horses at Old Salem Farm year round. The Lounge features men’s and women’s dressing rooms with showers, a bar and party area, a private exercise center and high-end gym with treadmills and free weights, as well as wireless internet and flat screen TV. On cool days, visitors can stay comfortable in the heated viewing area as they watch riders practicing in the indoor arena.
In and out of the stable, horses live in the lap of luxury. The farm offers new oversized paddocks, which allow horses plenty of free range within the confines of a safe and well-maintained turnout area. Horses stabled on the side of the barn overlooking the farm’s famed grass grand prix field can look through their windows for a bird’s eye view of the show jumping action happening below.
There are two new competition rings that feature all-weather footing as does a new schooling ring. The indoor arena, host to 20 local horse shows over the course of the year, is also used for schooling and lunging during the spring shows, giving riders optimum room and conditions to prepare themselves and their horses for competition. The temporary stabling area has been leveled for optimum drainage and safety and can accommodate up to 12 stabling tents for the spring horse shows.
“The plan from day one was to upgrade our facility at Old Salem Farm and make it truly state of the art,” said Hakim. “People have been extremely patient as all the attention to detail sometimes made the project seem endless. Now that the renovations are complete, we have no doubt that everyone will be thrilled with what has been accomplished, and we invite everyone to join us at Old Salem this spring for a grand celebration of the ‘new’ Old Salem Farm.”
Old Salem Farm is located one hour north of New York City. In addition to its year-long horse show series that includes 20 horse shows in addition to its flagship spring horse shows, it maintains luxury stabling facilities for year-round boarding, and offers training for all levels of riders, as well as horses for sale and lease.
