Show Jumping Course Designers Selected for 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games
Release:

The World Games 2010 Foundation announced that Conrad Homfeld and Richard Jeffery have been selected as course designers for show jumping at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG). The 2010 WEG will feature eight world championships in equestrian sport, and will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, September 25-October 10, 2010.
As the course designers for show jumping, Homfeld and Jeffery will oversee all aspects of the courses, including the overall course layout, as well as the technical and artistic elements in the design of each jump.
“Mr. Homfeld and Mr. Jeffery will bring to the 2010 Games the highest levels of experience and talent in course designing,” said WEG Competition Director Kate Jackson. “We are confident that they will develop courses for show jumping that are technically challenging for the riders, and entertaining for the audience.”
Homfeld and Jeffery are FEI “Official” Show Jumping Course Designers, a designation granted to only a few course designers in the world. Homfeld has twice been the course designer for the FEI World Cup Final in Las Vegas, NV. He brings to course designing his experience and knowledge from a distinguished competitive career. Homfeld won the World Cup Final in 1980 and 1985, and earned an Individual Silver and Team Gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1986 World Championships.
“Riding and course designing have provided a great outlet for me as a horseman,” said Homfeld. “Course designing requires the complete use of your horsemanship, while taking into consideration a variety of conditions, viewpoints and interests. It is a great feeling to be part of a good day of competition.”
Jeffery has been voted as “Course Designer of the Year” a record eight times by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), and is recognized as a show jumper judge by the USEF. He has been the course designer for show jumping at the Rolex Three-Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park since 1998.
“Because I have been previously involved with the Kentucky Horse Park, it is particularly exciting for me to see the pinnacle of equestrian sport come to Lexington, KY, and it is an honor to be involved,” said Jeffery. “The World Equestrian Games are coming to the heart of the horse world. Conrad and I are going to work very hard over the next two years to design show jumping courses worthy of the occasion.”
Homfeld, of Wellington, FL, and Jeffery, a native of Great Britain, join the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games competition team, which includes Show Jumping Discipline Managers David Distler, of Connecticut, and Hugh Kincannon of Lexington, KY. Competition Director Kate Jackson oversees all competition development for the 2010 Games.
