Zone Points are earned in the following hunter divisions: Children's Hunters, Adult
Amateur Hunter and Zones 1,3,4,6,7,8,9 and 10 offer awards in the Pre-Green division.
The Regular Working, Green Working, Amateur Owner, Conformation Hunter, Junior Hunter,
Pony Hunter and Classics are also awarded Zone points if horse and rider are competing
within their home zone. The points for the Children's Hunters, Adult Amateur Hunters
and Pre-Green divisions are based on the "C" rated points chart, regardless the rating
of the competition. The Zone points for the Regular Working, Green Working, Amateur Owner,
Conformation Hunter, Junior Hunter and Pony Hunter divisions are based on the "B" rated
points chart, regardless the rating of the competition.

Q: Who has to be a member of the United States Hunter
Jumper Association (USHJA)?
A: In order to compete in any hunter, jumper, equitation or hunter breeding classes at
recognized competitions as an exhibitor, rider, trainer, or his/her agent(s), a person
must be an active member of the United States Hunter Jumper Association, Inc., or pay a
non-member fee of $30 to the USHJA. Exception: Local Competitions, Breed restricted Hunter
Seat Equitation classes and exceptions listed in GR901.9. The USHJA membership is in
addition to the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) membership requirements.
An exhibitor is defined as the owner or lessee of a horse when entered in a class where
only the merits of the horse are to be considered. In Equitation classes, Exhibitor refers
to the rider. GR120.
A good rule of thumb is anyone who signs the entry blank has to be an active member of USHJA.

Q: What are the membership categories and dues for the USHJA?
A: Active Members - Those individuals who enter USEF licensed competitions as a rider,
owner, trainer or coach receive full benefits of USHJA membership for the year.
Active Member - $55.00
Associate Members - Those individuals not competing in USEF licensed competitions who
receive all other benefits of USHJA membership for the year. (Associate Members are
subject to USHJA Non-member fees if competing in USEF licensed competitions).
Associate Member - $25.00
Outreach Members - Those individuals competing in classes that qualify for the Affiliate
Equitation Awards Program and receive some of the other benefits offered by USHJA for
the membership year. Please note: Outreach members are subject to USHJA non-member
fees if competing in USEF licensed competitions.
Outreach Member - $15.00
Life Member $1000.00 - Full USHJA membership benefits for life.

Q: How many membership cards will I receive and how many
membership numbers?
A: If you join or renew as a USEF member and a USHJA member at the same time on a
joint application, you will receive one membership card. If you join or renew separately
on different dates you may receive two membership cards, one for each organization.
The membership number will be the same for both the USEF and the USHJA.
When you register your horse with USHJA and record your horse with USEF at the same
time, you will receive one horse certificate. If you join with both organizations
separately on different dates you may receive two membership cards, one for each
organization. The horse number will be the same for both organizations.
*Please note there is a $15 reprint fee for the issuance of a duplicate membership card.

Q: What about USHJA non-member fees?
A: The non-member fee to USHJA is $30.00 per competition. If you are a non-member of
either or both the USEF and the USHJA, the non-member fee is $30.00 per competition
for each organization. You will pay all non-member fees directly to the competition.

Q: What are my fees to USEF and to USHJA?
A: If you are an individual who competes in open hunter and/or jumper classes at
USEF recognized competitions, your membership fees are as follows:

Q: Are licensed officials and competition officials required
to be members of USHJA?
A: Per GR1058.8 Any judge officiating USEF Open (not restricted to a breed) hunter and/or
jumper classes must be a current member in good standing of the United States Hunter
Jumper Association, Inc.
Per GR1061.6 and GR1205.3 All licensed Course Designers must be a current member in good
standing of the United States Hunter Jumper Association, Inc.
Per GR1013.1a Any steward officiating USEF Open (not restricted to a breed) hunter and/or
jumper classes must be a current member in good standing of the United States Hunter
Jumper Association, Inc.
Per GR1202.1 [Manager] An individual acting in this capacity is required to be a
Senior Active Member of the Federation. In addition, any individual acting as the
manager of a hunter and/or jumper Open (not restricted to a breed) competition must
be a current member in good standing of the United States Hunter Jumper Association,
Inc.
Per GR1205.3 The Hunter course designer must be a Senior member of USEF and must be
knowledgeable in the rules relating to the Hunter classes being offered. The hunter
course designer must also be a member of USHJA.

Q: Do farms have to be recorded with USHJA?
A: No, farms are not required to join USHJA. However, the owner of the farm who signs
the entry blank will be required to be a member of USHJA or pay a non-member fee. A
farm will need to be recorded with USEF for the purposes of accruing Federation points.
If your farm is recorded with USEF and you are showing your horses under the farm name,
we encourage you to record the farm with USHJA as well. Lifetime Farm Recordings for
USHJA are $100.

Q: If I compete at a USEF Local rated competition, do I have to
be a member of USHJA or pay the non-member fee?
A: No, you are not required to be a member of USHJA or the pay the non-member fee at
Local rated competitions.

Q: If I compete in a class that is hunter or jumper and is
restricted to a breed such as Welsh, do I have to be a member of USHJA?
A: No, you only have to be a member of USHJA if the hunter or jumper class is open
to all breeds.

Q: If I chose not to be a member of USHJA and pay the non-member
fee when I compete at USEF recognized competitions, how will that affect my USEF Horse
of the Year points?
A: Currently, you are not required to be a member of USHJA for your USEF Horse of the
Year points to count. However, you still must meet all the USEF requirements.

Q: If I am a U.S. Eventing member do I have to be a USHJA member?
A: If an individual is an active member of USEA, he/she is not required to be a
member of USHJA, nor pay the non-member fees. They must provide proof of an active
membership card from their affiliate organization, USEA.

Q: What are the requirements for Canadian Federation Members
A: Members of Equine Canada (Canadian Federation) do not have to be USHJA members and
the non-member fee does not apply.
Equine Canada horse/pony measurement cards and passports are not acceptable for
purposes of complying with USEF rules on measurement and horse ID numbers. They
will need to have the pony measured in accordance with HU168 – HU 179. If they
bring a photocopy of their Canadian membership card to have the steward attach
to the measurement form, they will receive their measurement card faster.
