Although these drugs are an important component of therapy for these disease syndromes, overuse and misuse of NSAIDs can result in gastrointestinal injury, kidney damage and even death in horses. Researchers at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine have investigated these drugs in horses with colic-related intestinal injury. This research has uncovered previously unknown adverse effects: NSAIDs actually retard healing of damaged gastrointestinal tissue.

Grand Prix Jumper Kaskaya Stolen From Rudy Leone's Barn

On November 17, Rudy Leone's grand prix horse, Kaskaya was stolen from the Leone Equestrians property. "The mare is gone and so is her passport. Someone broke into the office and just took the one passport. Nothing else was taken, just the horse and the passport," said Leone.

Kaskaya is a dark brown, 10-year-old mare that Leone's former wife, Andrea, showed in the grand prix ranks. Based on the circumstances, it seems the thief was after the one specific horse.

The Sacramento Sheriff's department is involved in the investigation. If you have any information about Kaskaya, please call Rudy Leone at (916) 531-2969.

2005 Pan American Endurance Championship

The organizers of the Pan American Endurance Championship have applied to the FEI to change the date of this event from April 2-4, 2005 to April 14-16, 2005.  The date change application was submitted in order to avoid a conflict with the date of the FEI General Assembly in Great Britain, which would require the attendance of many senior officials from the American continent.  The FEI has granted this date change.

U.S. endurance riders wishing to apply for this championship may contact Mary Lutz in the Gladstone office, (908) 234-0848, ext. 15, or visit www.usef.org, Endurance High Performance, for details.
