Megan Young Wins the 2004 ASPCA Maclay National Equitation Championship at the Metropolitan National Horse Show

The title of National Champion was on the line Sunday afternoon, November 7, at Pier 94 at the Show Piers in New York City. At the end of the day, one of the 104 riders entered in the 2004 ASPCA Maclay National Championship for the ASPCA Horsemanship Classes would emerge with that title. Riders qualified for the finals by placing in regional competitions held throughout the United States earlier in the year.

Lilley and Lawrence Win Eventing Championships

Adding only four show jumping penalties to their dressage score, Shannon Lilley of San Jose, CA, and High Mountain Road, owned by Dayna Lynd-Pugh of Tres Pinos, CA, won the USEF National One Star Eventing Championship and the Richard D. Collins Trophy, with a total score of 52.3. The championship took place at the Galway Downs International Three-Day Event and Horse Trials in Temecula, CA, November 4-7. Claiming another victory over the weekend was Jamie Lawrence of Seattle, WA, and her horse, Malik. The pair won the USEF National Young Rider Eventing Championship and the John H. Fritz Trophy after adding two rails in show jumping to their dressage score, for a total of 63.2.

East Coast League Riders Compete for World Cup Qualifying Points at $75,000 Budweiser World Cup of Syracuse

David Raposa bested a field comprised of 2004 Olympic athletes and fellow international riders to claim the highest score for the United States at the $75,000 Budweiser World Cup of Syracuse over the weekend. Coming in second place overall, atop Audi’s Fanny de la Tour, (Bay Selle Francais mare; Trias Du Gue—Alicia De La Tour; Shalamar Farm) Raposa jumped double clear rounds to secure his title. His jump-off round clocked in at a mere 31.21 seconds, less than two-tenths of a second behind the first place finisher, Eric van der Vleuten, of The Netherlands. This second place finish means an additional 17 World Cup qualifying points for Raposa, drastically changing his standing in the East Coast League from last week’s 16th place to a tie for 7th.

The USEF is pleased to announce the riders named to the 2005 Winter Training List. This list is recommended by the USEF Eventing Selectors and represents the horse/rider combinations they feel will most benefit the High Performance program by working with Captain Mark Phillips and other selected dressage and show jumping coaches.

Highlights of the Metropolitan National Horse Show

The Metropolitan National Horse Show was held for the second consecutive year at Pier 94 and the Show Piers on the Hudson in New York City. Hunters, jumpers and equitation riders from across the country competed in more than 80 hunter and jumper events held in day and evening sessions from November 3-7, 2004. Prize money awarded totaled $310,000.

Engle, Ward, Kursinski and Schatt Have Success at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament

In the end, it was just one rail that kept Beezie Madden from her first Syracuse Cup win at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament in Syracuse, NY, November 3-7. In the Syracuse Cup’s unique three-phase competition, it was Margie Engle of Wellington, FL, riding Nobility and Animagus that claimed the title for 2004. Engle went faultless through all three phases. Second was Laura Kraut and Madden was third. Seven riders in all qualified to compete. In order of qualification, they were Leslie Howard, Margie Engle, McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Kim Frey, Anne Kursinski and Beezie Madden.

A: If the horse/pony is entered in a class where horse/pony height is a factor, the horse/pony must have a measurement card to present to the secretary at the competition.

Fund Raiser to Help Send Ponies to 2005 World Pony Driving Championships

As much as we love every facet of equestrian competition, we all know the costs can start to add up—especially when it comes time to take on the world in international competition. AAEP Releases "Care Guidelines for Equine Rescue and Retirement Facilities"

Because of the vital services provided to unwanted and neglected or abused horses by equine rescue and retirement groups, the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) has developed a new resource guide titled “Care Guidelines for Equine Rescue and Retirement Facilities.” The guide is designed to help the non-veterinary caregiver successfully provide care to a rescued horse or a horse in need of rehabilitation.

The North American Young Riders will once again offer a CCI*-J division in 2005. The one-star eventing competition will run with Steeplechase for junior competitors ages 14-18. FEI Dressage Freestyle Forum

The FEI and Performance Sales International presents the Dressage Freestyle Forum in the "See-und Sporthotel" in Ankum, Germany, February 1-2, 2005.

Chaired by Mariette Withages, the Forum will welcome famous choreographers and composers to discuss the progression of freestyle with top dressage riders, judges, instructors and TV specialists.
