2005 Washington International Horse Show Wrap-up

Kent Farrington of Greenwich, CT, and Madison, owned by Alexa Weeks, stormed to victory on Saturday evening, October 29, 2005, in the $100,000 President’s Cup, sponsored by Salamander Hospitality, LLC, at the Washington International Horse Show.

Twenty-five equestrian superstars and their equine partners went to the post in the highlight event of the show. Steve Stephens of Palmetto, FL, designed this year’s President’s Cup course.

Eight competitors qualified for the jump-off, mastering the first round challenge set by Stephens. Seven horse and rider combinations had four faults, while another five had eight faults. Four competitors had more than eight.

The Gulf Coast Winter Series Will Go On, But Elsewhere

Members of the Gulf Coast Classic Company have been working with rescue and relief volunteers every day since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast, even using the Gulf Coast Winter Series show grounds as a distribution point for supplies to those most in need. Despite the show grounds being in near-perfect shape and the pleading of a community in desperate need of economic help, some changes had to be made due to FEMA’s official announcement that all area shelters will soon be closed and the people relocated to local hotels until at least March. With only 100 days until the circuit was scheduled to start, the Gulf Coast Classic Company was forced into making the difficult decision to temporarily relocate a portion of this year’s series.

The Beginning of the Kentucky Saddlebred Owners and Breeders Association

A new Charter Club of the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) has been formed in Kentucky, named the Kentucky Saddlebred Owners and Breeders Association (KSOBA). The ASHA has received notification of the new club’s compliance with the requirements of ASHA bylaws for recognition.

Reining Division Champions Named at the 2005 Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show

The 2005 Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show, which celebrated its 33rd year in Oklahoma City October 8-15, was yet another success. The show awarded titles in more than 250 classes. The 1,200-plus entries represented some of the world’s finest Morgan horses from across the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Austria.

Wilma Won’t Deter the 122nd Annual National Horse Show and Family Festival Set for Wellington

Hurricane Wilma dealt a damaging blow to South Florida and the equestrian community of Wellington when she struck the area on October 24, 2005. Despite the widespread impact, the equestrian community is rapidly recovering and gradually returning to normal.

Paso Fino Horse Association 2006 Hall of Fame Nominations

Now is the time to nominate an individual or a horse to be considered for induction into the Paso Fino Hall of Fame. Individuals must be in good standing with the Paso Fino Horse Association (PFHA) and must have been inactive in PFHA-sanctioned events for a period of five years or must be age 60 or older as of September 1, 2006. If deceased, the nominee must have been in good standing at the time of death. The nominee must have invested a minimum of five years, regionally or nationally, in helping to promote the Paso Fino breed. A biography must accompany nomination listing accomplishments and contributions to the breed.

New Andalusian and Lusitano Breed Brand

The Spanish Andalusian and the Portuguese Lusitano are known collectively as the “Iberian Horse” from their place of origin, Europe’s Iberian Peninsula. A new brand to represent these beautiful horses was approved by the International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) at their recent board meeting in Tulsa.

  1. Once on the USEF homepage, please select Authorized Users Area in the upper right corner. If you have never used this feature before, please click SIGN UP and follow the instructions to create your account. Once you have signed up, please LOG IN. Click on CONTINUE.
  2. Select HORSE REPORTS on the Authorized Users menu.
