Maria Schaub Wins Region 2 ASPCA Maclay Qualifier, Sara Green Victorious in Region 3

The first two regional qualifying competitions were held this past weekend for the 2007 ASPCA Maclay National Championships. The winner of Region 2 was Maria Schaub of Holmdel, NJ. Sara Green of Sherborn, MA, was the winner of Region 3. The 2007 ASPCA Maclay National Championships will be held at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament on October 31-November 4, 2007, in Syracuse, NY.

American Saddlebred Registry Two-Year-Old Sweepstakes Deadline to Nominate Yearlings is Saturday, September 15

The deadline to nominate yearlings for the 2008 American Saddlebred Registry (ASR) Two-Year-Old Sweepstakes is Saturday, September 15, 2007. That’s this Saturday. The 10-day grace period following the September 15 deadline allows for nominations to be postmarked on or before Tuesday, September 25. Nominations not postmarked by September 25 will not be accepted.

America’s Best Put in Admirable Efforts in Two Disciplines

The U.S. show jumpers and event riders traveled in opposite directions to take on some of the world’s best during the first half of September. The highlight of the eventers’ performances was 57-year-old Bruce Davidson’s 10th-place finish on his 11-year-old homebred mare Jam at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials August 29-September 2. The prestigious event was won by British veteran rider William Fox-Pitt and American Philip Adkins’ Parkmore Ed. It was Fox-Pitt’s fourth Burghley win despite being Parkmore Ed’s first try at this level. The leader after the cross-country, Andrew Nicholson and Lord Killinghurst, sadly had two rails down in the show jumping and dropped to fourth.

USEF Task Force Makes Recommendations on Safety and Accident Preparedness

The task force formed by USEF to review current safety procedures at USEF-licensed competitions has recently made certain recommendations as part of an effort to monitor safety standards in equestrian sport. In formulating the following recommendations, the task force collaborated with other sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, as to how those sports address safety issues. This task force went beyond its mission as it also made recommendations that address accident preparedness as well as response. The members of the task force were Mr. Andrew Ellis, Co-Chair; Mr. David O’Connor, Co-Chair; Dr. A. Kent Allen; Dr. William Brooks; Mr. Robert Costello; Mr. Derek Di Grazia; Mr. Malcolm Hook; Ms. Shelley Lambert; Mr. William Moroney; Ms. Melinda Roalstad; and Ms. Jo Whitehouse.

Eliza Shuford Wins $150,000 FTI Grand Prix to Conclude 32nd Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show

Eliza Shuford, 28, of Hickory, NC, and Larentino triumphed against Olympians Beezie Madden and Peter Wylde to win the $150,000 FTI Grand Prix at the 2007 Hampton Classic Horse Show. The highlight the Hampton Classic, the $150,000 FTI Grand Prix, saw 30 of the world's best horse-and-rider combinations vying for top honors. Out of the starting field, only three riders went fault-free in the first round over the Conrad Homfeld-designed course.

AAEP Annual Convention to Offer Quality Education for Veterinarians and Horse Owners

The 53rd Annual Convention of the American Association of Equine Practitioners will be held in Orlando, FL, December 1-5, continuing its long history of providing premier continuing education for equine veterinarians, veterinary technicians and horse owners. More than 3,000 practitioners, students and technicians attend the convention each year, making it the largest equine veterinary meeting in the world. The Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center will be the primary location for convention events.

Sweden Sends Out the Big Guns for the Final Assault in the Samsung Super League with FEI

The Swedish team will be coming out with all guns blazing for the final of the 2007 Samsung Super League with FEI series, which takes place in Barcelona, Spain, next Sunday. An unfortunate afternoon at the second-last leg in Dublin last month saw them bringing up the rear, and they go into Sunday's decider at the bottom of the series leaderboard knowing that nothing short of a strong performance can save them from relegation.

At the August American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Board of Director's Meeting, locations for the 2008 Judge's School were selected to be held conjunction with Diamond Jubilee in Del Mar, CA, in April; Southern States Regional Morgan Horse Show in Raleigh, NC, in May; and North Star Morgan Americana in St. Paul, MN, in July.
