Courtney King Claims Seven Victories and the East Coast Riders Cup Prix St. Georges Championship at Centerline Events at HITS on the Hudson CDI-W/Y/J/P

Courtney King of New Milford, CT, brought six horses to Centerline Events at HITS on the Hudson CDI-W/Y/J/P, held August 17-19, in Saugerties, NY, and competed in both the open show and the CDI. King's mounts for the event were Harmony's Wyoming, Jubilant, Mythilus, Rendezvous 3, Timber and Tsunami. The talented group spanned the training scale from third level to grand prix, and several of them were making their debut at new levels. After three days of competition, King claimed seven victories and two championships—the East Coast Riders Cup (ECRC) Prix St. Georges (PSG) Championship title with Jubilant and the ECRC Championship at third level with Harmony's Wyoming.

Spruce Meadows and Barcelona Host World’s Best Show Jumpers

The U.S. is fielding a formidable team for one of the most prestigious show jumping challenges in the world, the Spruce Meadows Masters. More than 50,000 spectators turn out over the weekend to watch some of the world’s best show jumpers vie for over $2 million in prize money.

The U.S. show jumpers will be fighting a war on two fronts with the top riders divided between the Masters in Calgary, Alberta, September 5-9, and the CSIO***** in Barcelona, Spain, where the Samsung Super League Final will get underway the following week.

Pennsylvania National Horse Show Shakes Up the Schedule for Its 62nd Year

Venerable national horse shows like the Pennsylvania National Horse Show (PNHS), held October 18-27, at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA, are all about tradition. Much of the thrill of winning one of the 11 national championships decided at the show is joining the lists of equestrian greats in whose footsteps winning riders follow. So, year after year, competitors can almost set their watches by checking what’s in the ring.

First Microchip Approved for Equine Use in National Animal Identification System

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the approval of Digital Angel Corporation’s (formerly Destron Fearing) Life-Chip equine radio frequency identification (RFID) injectable transponder for use in horses. The industry expects that in the future additional companies will apply for USDA approval of equine microchips to be developed and sold in the U.S.

Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Raises the Bar in Support of Houston Kids; Record Donation of $110,000 Announced

Ronald McDonald House of Houston and Texas Children’s Hospital will share a gift of $110,000 raised from the 62nd Annual Pin Oak Charity Horse Show held March 21-April 1 at Great Southwest Equestrian Center. It is the largest donation made in the history of the show. Since its founding in 1945, Pin Oak has raised more than $3.5 million for children’s charities.

Pin Oak President Lynn Walsh presented the check to Dr. Zoann Dryer of Texas Children's Hospital and Naomi Scott and Mikki Donnelly of Ronald McDonald House Houston and said the unprecedented gift was a milestone in the horse show’s long history.

Record Entries and International Riders Expected for Eventing National Championships

Over 550 entries have been received for this year’s Wellpride American Eventing Championships (AEC), a new record for this national championships for the Olympic equestrian sport of eventing, which will be held September 13-16 at Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, IL. Not only has this year’s Wellpride AEC set a record for entries, it has also set a record for national and international representation, with riders coming from 42 states and the District of Columbia. In addition, five countries and three continents are represented: the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

Combined Driving Returns to the Kentucky Horse Park

After an absence of many years, the thrilling sport of combined driving returns this October to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. The three distinct phases of combined driving—driven dressage, the cross-country marathon and obstacle (“cones”) driving—were originally modeled after three-day eventing. This year’s event—the Lexington Combined Driving Classic—will be held October 5–7.

Jennifer Reid and Sweet Emotion Win Adult Hunter Championship at New York State Fair Horse Show

At the New York State Fair Horse Show in Syracuse, NY, Jennifer Reid of Wellington, FL, took home the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunter championship on her mount Sweet Emotion.

Reid and the talented black mare won three out of five classes in the division. They were third and fourth in the remaining two classes. Sweet Emotion won the under saddle class in the adult hunter division as well as the $500 open hunter under saddle class.
