Inaugural All American Cup Offers Record Prize Money

The final count is in. There will be 162 American Saddlebred weanlings eligible to compete in the Inaugural All American Cup. The produce from the finest stallions and best-producing broodmares the industry has to offer will compete in the All American Cup for the largest amount of money ever offered since the founding of the American Saddlebred Registry in 1891.

The USEF has announced that due to a veterinary issue Kim Severson has withdrawn He's Got Rhythm from the Short List of 2004 Olympic Team candidates.

After meeting on June 29, Captain Mark Phillips, the Selectors and the Veterinary Panel selected Kim Severson and Maguire to replace He's Got Rhythm on the Short List. The list represents the Nominated Entry for the 2004 Olympic Games Eventing Competition.

Custom Made Poster Sales to Benefit U.S. Olympic Eventing Squad

The United States Eventing Association (USEA) has teamed up with USEF to promote the sale of a poster of 2000 Olympic gold medalists Custom Made and David O'Connor--created by artist Heidi Osgood to commemorate Custom Made's retirement. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the poster's sale will benefit the 2004 U.S. Olympic Eventing Squad in their quest for a Gold medal at the Olympics.

With the spread of vesicular stomatitis, a viral infectious disease, throughout Texas and New Mexico, restrictions have been placed on horses entering Kentucky and Florida from those states. Dr. Robert Stout, Kentucky state veterinarian, announced on June 23 that any livestock (including horses) and wild and exotic animals from New Mexico and the affected and embargoed portions of Texas will be prohibited from entering the state. In addition, livestock and wild and exotic animals entering the state from the non-embargoed areas of Texas are required to meet certain conditions. Any hooved livestock (including horses) entering Florida, even if they are just traveling through the state, from VS-affected states must carry a special statement that they have been found free of VS or insects that could carry VS. In addition, permission must be granted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for entry into the state.

American Shetland Pony Club offers $10,000 Prize for Pony Finals Champion
                                                                                 
The American Shetland Pony Club (ASPC) announced a $10,000 incentive prize to be awarded to any registered Shetland Pony who earns the title of Champion Small Pony Hunter at the USEF Pony Finals to be hosted in August in Lexington , VA.

"The $10,000 incentive prize was designed to encourage participation and reward success,"  explained Larry Parnell, president of the ASPC Executive Committee.  "Today, Shetland Ponies are not the wooly ponies depicted in Thelwell cartoons. They are sleek, well-bred little athletes with excellent dispositions and a great deal of heart."
 
According to ASPC Executive Director Zona Schneider,  "Shetland Ponies excel over fences and have been quietly making inroads in the small hunter pony division.  We want to recognize any Shetland Pony that wins the ultimate title of Small Pony Hunter Champion at the 2004 Pony Finals."

USEF Now Accepting Nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the USEF Lifetime Achievement Award. The recipient of this award will be presented the Jimmy A. Williams trophy at the 2005 Annual Meeting in Louisville, KY. This award recognizes a horseman or woman whose “lifetime experience and accomplishments exemplify uncommon devotion to the sport of competition with horses and whose equestrian career and horsemanship have continually elevated the sport's excellence.”

Your nomination should include: the nominee's name, the city and state of residence, discipline(s) and/or breed(s), your reason for suggesting him/her, and any other information pertinent to any involvement in the horse industry. Please be aware that this honor is not awarded posthumously and the nominee should still be living and no longer actively competing in equestrian sport.

Form and Function Symposium for Breeders

The Performance Horse Registry and USEF will host a “Form and Function” symposium for breeders with Dr. Marvin Beeman. Dr. Beeman has been an equine practitioner since 1957 and is the past president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). He was also named Colorado Veterinarian of the Year in 1975 and serves as the Joint Master and Huntsman of the Arapahoe Hunt Club.

The symposium will be offered on Saturday, August 21, 2004, from 1-5 p.m. in the Federation offices in Lexington, KY. Registration is required and a there is a fee of $25 for USEF Members or $35 for non-members.
