USEF Announces Short List for 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games Dressage Team

The USEF announced today the short list of horse-and-rider combinations for the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games Dressage Team.

• Steffen Peters of San Diego, CA, riding Floriano, a 16-year-old Westphalian gelding, owned by Stephen Browning and Laurelyn Browning;
• Guenter Seidel of Cardiff, CA, riding Aragon, a 14-year-old Bavarian Warmblood gelding, owned by Richard and Jane Brown;
• Debbie McDonald of Hailey, ID, riding Brentina, a 15-year-old Hanoverian mare, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Parry Thomas;
• Leslie Morse of Beverly Hills, CA, riding Tip Top, a 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood stallion, owned by Leslie Morse; and Kingston, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion, owned by Leslie Morse;
• Arlene “Tuny” Page of Wellington, FL, riding Wild One, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding, owned by Arlene Page;
• Catherine Haddad based in Vecta, Germany, riding Maximus, a 12-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, owned by the Janet Schneider Trust

Historic Sale of American Saddlebreds to Dubai Announced

Two American Saddlebred geldings, Kobada’s Jacq Of Times and Canyonleigh Stargazer, have been sold to the members of the ruling family of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Kobada’s Jacq Of Times (nicknamed JT) was sold by Australian Kevin Sayer of Mountain Breeze Stud, Mount Hunter, New South Wales, to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, supreme ruler of Dubai. The 15.3-hand bay gelding is presently in quarantine in northern Australia. His record in 2004 and 2005 includes winning three rides at 50-miles, as well as leading at the 230 mile mark of the Shahzada, at 250 miles the longest competitive ride in the world, carrying 250 pounds. Freestyle Sunday at the USET Foundation Festival of Champions Meant a Pair of Hat Tricks for Gibson and Peters

There’s nothing better than a hat-trick, but how about a hat-trick times three…all three championships held at the USET Foundation Festival of Champions were clean sweeps by Rebecca Hart, Michelle Gibson and Steffen Peters. Hart was the winner of all three classes that make up the 2006 USEF National Para-Equestrian Championship, Gibson took the honors winning all three of her classes to in the 2006 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF National Intermediaire I Dressage Championship, and Peters took home top honors by winning all three classes in the 2006 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF National Grand Prix Dressage Championship.

Alltech to Sponsor 2010 FEI Games™ in Kentucky

Alltech, a worldwide animal nutrition company headquartered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky with a European bioscience center in Ireland, has stepped forward with a $10-million dollar title sponsorship, attaching its name to the 2010 FEI Games™ in Kentucky. The announcement was made by Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher and Alltech president and founder Dr. Pearse Lyons. The games will officially be known as the Alltech FEI GamesTM Kentucky 2010.

Inaugural Brentina Cup Winner and Her Home-Bred Stallion Turn in a Top Performance Despite Having Mono

The inaugural Brentina Cup was awarded to the winner of the USEF National Young Adult Dressage Championship today as part of the USET Foundation Dressage Festival of Champions. Elisabeth Austin of Williston, VT, and her 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion, Olivier scored a 70.39% on their FEI Intermediaire II test despite it being only his ninth show ever and only his third recognized FEI competition. Debbie McDonald presented Austin and Olivier the Brentina Cup, named after the 2005 Farnam®/ Platform™ • USEF Horse of the Year, Brentina, ridden and shown by McDonald. Brentina’s owners, Mr. and Mrs. Parry Thomas are the sponsors of the 2006 Brentina Cup.

National Endurance Team/Short List Selected for the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games

The United States Equestrian Federation® is pleased to announce the selection of the National Endurance Team/Short List for the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games. Twelve horse-and-rider combinations and six ranked alternates were selected to continue training for the traveling team that will represent the U.S. at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, August 20–September 3. The endurance competition will begin on August 21, 2006, the first competition of the Games.

USEF Names World Champion, Valerie Kanavy, Chef d’Equipe for the 2006 World Equestrian Games Endurance Team

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) announced that Valerie Kanavy of Fort Valley, VA, will serve as the chef d'equipe for its 2006 World Equestrian Games Endurance Team in Aachen, Germany, this summer. Considered one of the finest endurance riders in the world, she is a two-time endurance world champion (1994 and 1998); Individual Silver medalist and Team Gold medalist at the 1996 Endurance World Championships; 2003 FEI Masters World Champion; 1999 American Horse Shows Association (AHSA) Horsewoman of the Year; and was the 1999 United States Equestrian Team (USET) Whitney Stone Award recipient. Additionally, Kanavy is a member of the USEF Board of Directors and a member of several USEF committees including the Endurance High-Performance Committee, the Endurance Technical Committee and the Athletes Advisory Committee.

USEF Announces Top Twelve Qualifiers for 2006 USEF National Junior Dressage Team Championship

USEF is pleased to announce the top 12 qualified horse-and-rider combinations for the 2006 USEF National Junior Dressage Team Championship to be held July 6–9, 2006, and hosted by Pebble Beach Dressage & CDI 3*/P in Pebble Beach, CA (www.ridepebblebeach.com). This event, celebrating its 10th anniversary, showcases some of the most talented young dressage riders in the country today. This championship continues to be made possible through the support of sponsors Collecting Gaits Farm, the Dutta Corporation and Performance Sales International. After applications of intent were received from around the country, the top five scores submitted for each horse-and-rider combination were averaged to determine the final placings. The top 12 horse-and-rider combinations have been selected and placed on teams to compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Marilyn Adams, High-Performance Director of Dressage, Leaves the USEF

Marilyn Adams, USEF High-Performance Director of Dressage, and a highly regarded manager for international teams in both show jumping and dressage, has resigned from the USEF effective Tuesday, June 20, for personal reasons.

After a highly accomplished career as a young rider in three-day eventing, including international competition, Adams was with the American Horse Show Association (AHSA) in New York prior to joining the USET in 1999 as Assistant Director of Show Jumping Activities, and then as High-Performance Director of Dressage in July 2002. She has diligently served the USEF through many selection trials and international games including the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain; annual World Cup competitions from 2004 through 2006; the 2003 Pan American Games and the 2004 Olympic Games.

USEF Announces Eventing Short List for 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games

The USEF High Performance Working Group and Executive Committee on Selections has approved the Eventing High Performance Committee’s and the Eventing Selectors' recommendation to name the following horse-and-rider combinations (in alphabetical order) as the short list for the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games.

FEI Reining Committee Meeting

Updating the International Equestrian Federation’s (FEI) Reining Strategic Plan, establishing a timetable for continental and world championships and a review of the FEI Rules for Reining were among the points discussed at the FEI Reining Committee meeting held on May 30-31 in Tioga, TX.

The FEI Reining Strategic Plan, approved last year by the committee, was updated with action plans and timelines developed for each of the five objectives. These include having reining fully integrated into the FEI system, encouraging more FEI-approved competitions, establishing a timetable to increase the number of stewards and judges and improving the sport’s press and television coverage worldwide.

Online Registration Now Available for USDF Adult and Youth Clinics; Upcoming Clinic Information Just a Click Away

In an effort to serve United States Dressage Federation (USDF) members more efficiently and in response to members’ ongoing requests for online registration capability, USDF now offers the convenience of online auditor pre-registration for Adult and FEI Junior/Young Rider (Jr/YR) clinics, according to Sheila Forbes Stovall, USDF Director of Programs.

False Public Notice Being Circulated

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) would like to advise all members that a false notice has recently been circulated alleging restrictions on showing Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabians within the hunter division.

The false statement gives the impression that horses with 75% or more Arabian blood are not allowed to compete in open hunter classes. Please be advised that this is not accurate and that open hunter classes in USEF licensed competitions continue to be open to all breeds of horses.

Appaloosa Horse Club Selects New CEO

The Appaloosa Horse Club Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Steve Taylor as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) beginning August 1, 2006. Taylor has served as executive director of the Missouri Beef Industry Council for the past 19 years and also has ties to the Appaloosa industry as a former breeder, exhibitor and volunteer. The council is part of the industry network responsible for the famous "Beef. It's What’s For Dinner" advertising campaign.

American Buck Davidson Captures Bromont International Three-Day Event in Canada

In one of those situations where if you didn't laugh you'd cry, the Bromont International Three-Day Event took place under rainy skies from June 8-11.

Although sunny skies were reported in the surrounding area, the clouds hung over the site of the equestrian events at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Although Mother Nature was determined, competition organizers were just as determined to put on a good show, and the competitors were determined to do the same.

Aaron Vale and Sea Cloud Win $25,000 EMO Grand Prix at Atlanta Summer

Aaron Vale of Aiken, SC, partnered with Sea Cloud, the 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Andrea King, took top honors in the $25,000 Grand Prix sponsored by EMO Insurance to kick off the Horses Helping Horses events.

Wachovia Jumper Classic at Beacon Hill Show Stables Begins with Beautiful Weather and Big Turnout

Beacon Hill Show Stables, owned by Frank and Stacia Madden, hosts the Fourth Annual Wachovia Jumper Classic. The show opened with weather in the high 80s, a nice breeze and not a cloud in the sky. The one ring horse show has some 240 entries and runs from 8:00 a.m. until its finish late in the afternoon.

The course is set on a beautiful “old fashioned” grass ring and all of the classic natural obstacles needed to create a real derby course are built into the field.

Cara Cheska and My Fair Lady Win the $40,000 Country Heir II Grand Prix sponsored by Skara Glen Stables

Cara Cheska of Waukesha, WI, and her 11-year-old mare My Fair Lady bested a field of 18 to take home the blue ribbon and winner’s check in the $40,000 Country Heir II Grand Prix sponsored by Skara Glen Stables. Three went clear in the first round, which turned out to be more difficult than originally expected.

Course designer Pierre Joliceur set a track of 16 efforts that included three double combinations, a liverpool and the open water. Besides Cheska, Angela Moore riding Claus for Stealaway Farm and Tony Font on YZ Partner’s Gardenio were the only other two to go clean.
