Shawn Flarida Becomes National Reining Horse Association All-Time Leading Money Earner at 2007 NRHA Derby

National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Two-Million Dollar Rider and 2007 NRHA Open Derby Champion Shawn Flarida can add yet another accomplishment to his already lengthy list. Following his spectacular win at the NRHA Derby, Flarida, of Springfield, OH, is now the NRHA’s all-time leading money earner. Including Flarida’s winnings from the Derby, he has won $2,268,825 in NRHA lifetime earnings.

Woodside Horse Trials and Jersey Fresh Three-Day Event to Host Selection Divisions for Pan American Games

The USEF is pleased to announce that the Woodside Horse Trials and the Jersey Fresh CCI**/CCI*** will host the selection divisions for this summer’s Pan American Games on consecutive weekends.

This year, anyone vying for a spot on the U.S. eventing team will have to contest a selection division in Menlo Park, CA, at the Horse Park at Woodside (May 24-27) or at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown, NJ (May 31-June 3). Both competitions will showcase the country’s best horses and riders.

Record Prize Money Announced for Great American Insurance Group/United States Dressage Federation Regional Dressage Championships

The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) announced that the 2007 Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional Dressage Championships will award prize money of almost $130,000 divided among the nine regions. Champions will each receive $278, a jacket provided by Swedish Exclusive, Inc., and an embroidered Saratoga Horseworks walking sheet. Reserve champions will each receive $185 and a lead shank from the Great American Insurance Group, title sponsor of the championships.

Duplicate Membership Cards Now Available Online for American Saddlebred Horse Association Members

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) introduces a new convenient service, which provides members the ability to print duplicate copies of their membership cards online at www.saddlebred.com. Competitors at A-rated Saddlebred shows licensed by the United States Equestrian Federation are required to have evidence of their current membership in the American Saddlebred Horse Association. Anywhere access to the Internet and a printer is available, members can produce hard evidence of their membership in the association. Waiting for a replacement membership card by mail is no longer necessary.

The Devon Horse Show, featuring competition among top show jumpers, including many Olympic and World Champion veterans, takes place May 24-June 3 in Pennsylvania. Viewers can choose to watch live webcasts from both rings.

Final Week of Legacy Cup Showcases Juniors and Amateurs in Non-Pro Division

The second week of the two-week all-hunter Legacy Cup ran May 17-19 as part of the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows in Lexington. While the first week was all about the professional riders, Week Two showcased the 3’ and 3’6” Non-Pro divisions, featuring junior and amateur riders. The Legacy Cup took place May 10-19.

Laura Kraut Wins the CSI Madrid Grand Prix

Olympian Laura Kraut captured another big event when she won the grand prix of the CSI Madrid on May 19, which qualifies her for the 2007 European Championship and for the 2008 Olympic Games. Riding Anthem, a 1991 bay Dutch Warmblood gelding who is a familiar mount for Kraut, she finished in 35.84 seconds. For her win, Kraut is 43,000 Euros richer.

In second place was Bernardo Alves of Brazil. Alves completed the course in 36.84 seconds aboard Topic Van’t Voorhof. The best rider from Spain, the host country, finished in 15th place. Sergio Alvarez Moya rode Le Reve du Nabab.
