Eight East Coast Riders Advance to 2005 Budweiser FEI World Cup Show Jumping Final: Ward, Kraut, Frey, Kursinski, Riley, Hough, Bloomberg and King to Face the World in Las Vegas
The USEF is pleased to announce the eight East Coast show jumpers who will represent the nation during the 2005 Budweiser FEI World Cup Show Jumping Final in Las Vegas, April 20-24. Five USEF Riders Contend for Two World Cup Slots at the Dressage League Final This Weekend
The best and brightest dressage stars will battle it out in Burbank, California this weekend, in a show-down that will determine who will ride at the 2005 FEI World Cup Dressage Final Presented by Offield Farms, in Las Vegas, April 20-24. Tickets to the World Cup won’t come easily though, with a red-hot roster waiting to take home the title at the U.S. Grand Prix Freestyle Championship/U.S. League Final at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, April 1-3.

Kentucky Horse Park to Host Inaugural USEF Youth Reining Championship; Hagyard-Davidson-McGee and Markel Insurance Sign as Sponsors
In a bold move sure to expand the sport of reining starting at the grassroots level, the USEF announces the first-ever USEF Youth Reining Championship, to be featured at Fiesta in the Park at the Kentucky Horse Park, August 23-28. Hollywood Dun It Passes Away
The all-time leading sire in national reining horse history, Hollywood Dun It, was humanely put down on March 30. The 22-year-old buckskin stallion had been suffering from severe health problems escalated by his continuing battle with testicular cancer.

2005 FEI World Cup Finals to Host First Ever World Championship Hunter Rider World Cup Team Hunter Challenge

FEI Legal Update on Waterford Crystal
Following a hearing held in Zurich, Switzerland, on March 27, 2005, the FEI Judicial Committee determined that there had been a breach of FEI General Regulations Article 146.2 at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens relating to the presence of the prohibited substances of fluphenazine and zuclopenthixol in the horse Waterford Crystal ridden by Cian O’Connor of Ireland.

The USEF has discovered that many owners, trainers and exhibitors are not using the USEF Saddlebred Registration Affidavit correctly and are therefore subject to fines and penalties. In light of these circumstances, ASHA and USEF would like to clarify the proper use of this document to ensure no one is in violation of Federation rules.

Superstars of Show Jumping are Scheduled to Compete at $300,000 Charlotte Jumper Classic
The Second Annual Charlotte Jumper Classic CSI*** returns to the Charlotte Coliseum on April 8-10, 2005, and this year’s event will showcase some of the world’s greatest equestrian superstars in one of America’s richest show jumping events. The $150,000 Grand Prix of Charlotte, for the Charlotte Bobcat Cup, a member event on the American Grand Prix Association (AGA) tour, is the highlight of four days of exciting jumping competition featuring top Olympians and champions from around the world. This year’s event, the last major indoor competition before the Budweiser World Cup in Las Vegas, NV, on April 20, is vitally important as riders prepare for that worldwide competition.

Important Notice for Dressage Exhibitors and Officials
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has issued updated Freestyle Tests for the following levels:
• Grand Prix Freestyle
• Intermediare I Freestyle
• Young Rider Freestyle
• Junior Freestyle
Please note these tests have been updated in format only (e.g. new logo, additional comments and clarifications). Actual required test movements have NOT changed.
These new test versions must be used by all CDIs as of May 2, 2005. USEF-recognized dressage competitions may use either “old” or “new” test versions from May 2 through the end of the competition year (November 30).

Winter Equestrian Festival Departure From Tampa Could Cost Fair Board, City of Tampa Millions in Lost Revenue
For over 30 years, the Winter Equestrian Festival has called the Tampa Bay area home for the final leg and most important part of the nine-week-long equestrian tour. The Festival’s original Bay area home was at the Tampa Bay Yacht Club and for the past 27 years has been at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Morgans Capture Three of Four Titles at Live Oak Combined Driving World Selection Trials
Proving again that Morgans are among some of the finest driving horses in the world, Fred Merriam drove Nicholas Mercede's Gaitwood Lightwing, a 1995 bay gelding, to finish first in the FEI Single Horse Division. Lisa Singer finished first in the FEI Pairs Division, driving Mimi Torrington's chestnut geldings, Count On Me and LR Ami Bengali. Sara Schmitt was first in the FEI Single Pony Division, driving her High Country Doc, a 1996 bay, who also had the best marathon score.

ASHA Board Implements Internal Reorganization; Directors Elected to American Saddlebred Registry
The Board of Directors of the American Saddlebred Horse Association(ASHA), Inc., completed the internal corporate reorganization of its governance structure Tuesday, March 29. Members, who approved the reorganization in February, will belong to ASHA, Inc., now a public charity, and the breed’s Registry will be supervised by a companion board, including nine newly-elected directors effective Friday, April 1, 2005.

Olympians Head Star-Studded Field of Entries at Chatsworth International Horse Trials
Some of the country's leading international riders head a strong cast of competitors for the Chatsworth International Horse Trials, April 8-10, in Chatsworth, GA. The event, now in its 18th year, will be hosting its first FEI World Cup Qualifier (CIC***-W) alongside Intermediate and Open Preliminary divisions, to offer a total purse of $30,000.

Versatile Shogun and Kacey McCann Win in Equitation and Hunters at Atlanta Spring Classic
After a stellar winter circuit in Ocala, FL, Kacey McCann continued her hot streak in the first week of the Atlanta Spring Classic. McCann blew away the competition in Ocala, where she picked up circuit championships in the Equitation 12-14 on My Way; Large Junior 15 & Under and Modified Junior Hunter divisions on Pharrell for Euri Uchiyama; Small Junior 15 & Under Hunters on Jo Malone, another Uchiyama horse; and reserve circuit championships on Mick O Angelo in the Low Junior Jumpers and the Large Junior Hunters on Shogun.

Strong Field of International Riders Prepare for Competition at Galway Downs
Riders from Germany, Canada and Mexico will be competing against some 300 U.S. entries at the Galway Downs International Horse Trials, Temecula, CA, April 1-3, 2005. The FEI World Cup Qualifier (CIC***-W) has a strong field of 16 riders, including Natalie Rooney Pitts, of Napa, CA, who finished eighth at last year’s qualifier with Aladdin to make the finals. Lauren Whitlock, of Rohnert Park, CA, who came fifth aboard Kipling last year will also be back, as will James Moore who, in 2004, finished seventh. This time Moore, from Denver, CO, will be riding the 13-year-old Trakhener mare, Herzjuwel. The FEI (International Equestrian Federation) World Cup event is a series of qualifying competitions, which take place around the world. This year’s final will be held in Malmo, Sweden, August 11-14.
