Abigail Wexner's Authentic Named 2006 Farnam(R)/Platform(TM) USEF Horse of the Year

At the final social event of the 2007 Annual Meeting in Louisville, KY, the much-anticipated Farnam®/Platform™ USEF Horse of the Year Awards celebrated the equestrian world’s hardest working athletes—the horses—from across the spectrum of horse sport, presenting each of them with their moment to shine. From Andalusian to Welsh, driving to vaulting, members of the Federation took their turns at making their way through the large ballroom at the historic Seelbach Hotel to come forward and be applauded by their peers. And one special horse was singled out as the overall star of American equestrian sport for 2006.

George Morris Receives Lifetime Achievement Honors; Beezie Madden Named USEF Equestrian of the Year

It was standing room only during the much-anticipated Pegasus Awards where the equestrian world’s brightest stars gathered to be honored and celebrate achievements from 2006, as well as a lifetime.

The highlight of the evening, sponsored by Equisure and the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA), was the awarding of the Lifetime Achievement Award to living legend and show jumping trainer George Morris.

“This is the highlight of my career,” said Morris to a crowd hanging on his every word. The trainer of a long list of Olympic, Pan American and World Equestrian Game athletes entertained the audience with his witty remarks, stories and memories of his unparalleled career as one of equestrian sports most admired and respected coaches.

Jane Forbes Clark Named President of USET Foundation

At the 2007 United States Equestrian Team Foundation (USET Foundation) Annual Meeting, held January 12 in Louisville, KY, it was announced that Jane Forbes Clark has been named as the new President and CEO of the USET Foundation.

Clark takes over the role from Armand Leone, Jr. Leone will succeed Frank V. Lloyd as Chairman of the Board. In additional changes to the USET Foundation’s officers, Lawrence M. Tribble was named as the new Treasurer. The Foundation’s Vice-President Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. and Secretary Eric L. Straus will continue in their present roles. Three new members were named to the Board of Trustees - Jane Thomas, Lawrence M. Tribble and Stephen T. Rojek. Frank D. Chapot was named as an Honorary Lifetime Trustee for his extraordinary contribution to equestrian sport.

World Games Foundation Has New Home

The World Games 2010 Foundation, Inc., which was established to plan, organize and conduct the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, has a new home—2010 World Games Way—as well as a new telephone number (859-255-2010) and a new nine-digit ZIP code (40511-2010).

The building housing the Games’ staff is a renovated barn on the old Spindletop property, off Iron Works Pike, is owned by the state and is being leased to the Foundation. It originally served as the office for the Council of State Governments when that group relocated to Lexington. The current Council office is adjacent to the barn.

Gold Coast Opener CDIW/CDIY Rescheduled - February 16-18; New Closing Date is February 1

Join us February 16-18, 2007, at the new Palm Beach County Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm Beach, FL.

As a result of the overwhelming response from both competitors and USEF officials, the Gold Coast Opener CDIW/ CDIY, canceled for January due to the EHV1 outbreak, is now on, and rescheduled for February 16-18, at the Palm Beach County Equestrian Center. Manager and Gold Coast Dressage Association president Noreen O’Sullivan-Flanagan, has the dates and officials in place. Gold Coast had the dates at the new Jim Brandon Equestrian Center located a short distance east of the Wellington community in West Palm Beach for a schooling show & clinic series.

Riding for Reading Receives Grant for 2007 and Expands Its Programs

Riding For Reading, a non-profit organization (501-c-3) dedicated to promoting reading, literacy, and education through equestrian sports and activities, is pleased to announce that it has received two important grants to augment its 2007 budget. The Equus Foundation selected Riding For Reading as a recipient of one of its 2007 grants, and the United States Hunter Jumper Association also provided a grant.
