The USEF Selection Trials for Show Jumping at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL (February 28- March 9, 2008), was only the beginning of selecting the horses and riders who will represent the U.S. in the 2008 Olympic Games. Ten horse and rider combinations were announced after the trials. Six were chosen from the Final Standings of the Selection Trials and four others were chosen as Discretionary Choices. Per the USEF Selection Procedure for the Show Jumping Team, the Selectors have the discretion to recommend up to four of the 10 horse/rider combinations to the Short List regardless of their participation or placing in the Selection Trials.
The following horse/rider combinations are Discretionary choices:

The remaining six combinations were chosen according to their ranking at the conclusion of the Selection Trials, which ran February 28-March 9 in Wellington, FL.

Once named, the ten riders were split into two groups of five and each group was sent to Europe to prepare for the international level. Team selection will follow the completion of the second tour in Aachen, Germany (July 1-6, 2008) and will be based on performance during international competition and the selection trials.
*Jeffery Welles and Armani withdrew due to injury, from the Show Jumping Selection Process for the 2008 Olympic Games.
